About John Dearie
John Dearie was born in Corpus Christi, Texas and grew up in Stone Mountain, Georgia. He was educated at the University of Notre Dame and Columbia Universitys School of International and Public Affairs. A job on Wall Street first brought John to New York City in 1986, and for the next 15 years he lived and worked in the notorious playground for singles.
After writing short
stories for a number of years, John began the novel "Love and Other Recreational
Sports" based on Mark Twain's simple but sage advice to young writers:
"Write what you know." After 15 years as a single man in New York City, John had
done his research. And after years of media focus on the romantic travails of the urban
professional female HBO's Sex and the City, Helen Fieldings
"Bridget Jones Diary", Foxs Ally McBeal, Melissa Banks
"The Girls Guide to Hunting and Fishing" John thought it was high
time to hear from the men. What do men really think about women, relationships, sex, and
commitment? How do they talk to each other, rely on and confide in each other, as they
navigate life's mysteries and challenges? John knew this was a story he could write
credibly and authentically. This was a story worth writing and worth reading.
John is presently Managing Director of the Financial Services Volunteer Corps (FSVC) a not-for-profit, public-private partnership that recruits senior executives from the fields of banking and finance, law, accounting and financial supervision to serve as volunteers on technical assistance missions to developing countries. Prior to joining FSVC, John was vice president and chief policy officer of the Financial Services Forum, a financial and economic policy organization composed of the chief executive officers of 21 of the largest financial institutions in the United States. He also spent nine years at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, where he held positions in the Banking Studies, Foreign Exchange and Policy & Analysis areas. Regarded as one of the best writers at the Fed, John also served as a speechwriter to New York Fed presidents E. Gerald Corrigan and William J. McDonough.
After dating on-and-off for 10 years, John and his wife Stefanie finally married in December of 2001. They have left
the Manhattan singles' trenches and now reside in nearby Wappingers Falls, NY.
