Major Jon W. Glassford (retired)

Major Jon W. Glassford spent over 26 years in U.S. Army Military Intelligence and Special Operations. His responsibilities included producing intelligence products and developing intelligence systems and organizations, as well as managing, training and leading highly specialized and talented intelligence and special operations personnel. He has created, trained, and managed regional and national intelligence and security programs for the US Army Reserve and the US Army Special Operations Command. In 2001 he retired.

glassford.jpg (359501 bytes)Born in Fort Leonard Wood, MO, he followed the family tradition (his father is a retired Army Master Sergeant), entering the US Army in 1975 as an Electronic Warfare Specialist, where he received extensive training as a German linguist. After four years of active duty he returned to college and joined the US Army Reserve as a Strategic Intelligence Analyst.

In 1981 he joined an Army Reserve Psychological Operations company and quickly discovered his love of psychological operations. He received his commission as an Army Second Lieutenant in 1983, and attended the 10-week Psychological Operations Officer Course. Following his graduation from the University of Minnesota in 1985 he returned to active duty and attended the 6-month Military Intelligence Officer Course followed by the year-long intensive Russian course at the Defense Language Institute.

Glassford's assignments included Training and Operations Officer for a Special Forces Intelligence company; Counterintelligence Officer for a regional US Army Reserve headquarters; Counterdrug Operations Officer; Special Operations Plans Officer, overseeing the daily management of all US Army Civil Affairs and Psychological Operations in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East in the mid-90s. His final assignment was managing the training program for all Military Intelligence personnel in the Army Reserve Components. He retried ater thirty six years of service and now works as an intelligence expert for Pheonix Consulting, based in Huntsville, Alabama.

Glassford has served in intelligence and special operations, with assignments ranging from company-level up through regional and national headquarters as a Training and Operations Officer, as a Counterintelligence Officer, and as a Psychological (PSYOPS) Operations Officer. He has taught Military Intelligence and Psychological Operations courses in formal military intelligence schools as well as lectured at the JFK Special Warfare Center at Fort Bragg, NC. He has developed and presented numerous intelligence and security seminars and workshops throughout the southeast US. His projects include developing multi-media intelligence and force protection training media and programs, including developing corporate security intranets, intelligence and security "Knowledge Portals", and developing intelligence and security training CDs for the US Army Reserve military intelligence community.

His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards); the Army Commendation Medal; the Good Conduct Medal; and the Parachutist Badge and others.

Jon is a consultant with Phoenix Consulting Group of Huntsville, AL, and is currently engaged in developing new specialized intelligence training programs for the DoD intelligence community, and teaches cross-cultural-communications and regional studies in these courses.

Glassford and his wife Connie reside in Birmingham, AL. They have five children—Jeremy Glassford a Sergeant and Broadcast Journalist in the Army Reserve; Matthew Glassford, a Military Police Specialist currently called up to active duty; Daniel Glassford, who will enter the Army in March 2003 as an Intelligence Analyst; Mark Glassford, a Junior in high school and Sarah Glassford a Sophomore in high school.  Wife Connie is a former Army Vietnamese linguist and Electronic Warfare Specialist.
