Dan Patrick
Talk Show Host, National News Contributor, BLOG Editor & More...
Houston's
Dan Patrick
has spent the past 30 years in broadcast, and is one of the southwest's most
popular radio talk show hosts, on KSEV radio in Houston. His afternoon drive
time show is a hotbed for discussions on current news items, his commentary is
regularly sought out by national cable news programs.
In 2003 Patrick founded and launched Chronically Biased.com, a popular web BLOG that receives tens of thousands of hits daily. Patrick took great pains to retain some of the most experienced and respected journalists the Houston market had to offer, and each day his staff carefully research and report on national, as well as local news stories.
Patrick began his career in television (in Baltimore) after graduating from U.M.B.C. in Baltimore, with a Bachelor of Arts in English. Staying on for several years in the Baltimore market his colorful reporting style caught the eye of WNEP-TV in Scranton, PA. The ABC affiliate was most impressed with his coverage of sporting events, and brought him on-board as Sports Director and News Anchor. Patrick joined the station just as Bill O'Reilly left to pursue bigger and brighter things in his own career.
Station managers across the country began noticing the young, talented broadcaster: he had natural talent, he was direct and balanced in his news reporting, and had a unique finesse with interview guests.
In less than a year with the Scranton, PA station, Patrick accepted a position with WTTG-TV in Washington, DC. The Metromedia station (now a FOX O&O), brought him on-board as Sports Director and Anchor, where he worked with a strong and talented anchor team, which included NBC Today Show's, Al Roker. While at WTTG Patrick was nominated for two Emmys for his investigative reporting.
In 1979 Patrick and his family moved to Houston, where he accepted a position as Sports Director and Anchor with the CBS affiliate, KHOU. In 1982 KHOU debuted "Houston Afternoon" with Patrick as host. The talk show featured authors, celebrities and guests from the Gulf Coast area.
In 1984 Patrick left broadcasting to open and run his own restaurant, but Patrick missed broadcasting, so in 1988 he returned to the airwaves on KSEV radio, a 5,000 watt Houston station. Patrick hit the ground running serving as GM and morning host, and in short order his morning drive show became the #1 most listened to program on Houston radio (in that time slot).
In 2000, Patrick and former Texas Senator, Mike Richards (a Houston talk show host), worked out a management / partnership arrangement with Lieberman Broadcasting, whereby Dan and Mike would manage KSEV as ownership partners. Patrick would serve as VP and GM and together they would build their talk and news audience, and acquire such syndicated talk show hosts as Bill O'Reilly, Alan Colmes and Laura Ingram. Today, KSEV is one Houston's top news and talk stations, and Patrick's highly-rated show received the Texas Press Club's 'Number One in Texas' rating in 2003, Over recent years Patrick has broadcast his show LIVE from Japan, England and France.
Patrick is very active in his church, and in civic and political circles, and maintains a high profile in the Houston community, He serves on a number of nonprofit organization boards, and has been the recipient of numerous awards for his community work.
In December of 2002 Royal Books published Patrick's first book, The Second Most Important Book You Will Ever Read, which has broken Gulf Coast book store sales records (8,000 copies in six weeks) , and is moving into 'best sell' status across the country. Dan and his wife Jan have been married for twenty-seven years, and they have two children.
